Organisms constantly emit small amounts of DNA to their environment (e.g. in the form of mucus, faeces, fur tufts, scales, cell residues etc.). This so called environmental DNA (eDNA) can be isolated – for example from a water sample – and the species occurring in the respective water body can be identified based on this information.

We offer the detection of certain target species as well as the identification of a species composition based on the analysis of environmental samples.

Assessment of the species spectrum in your sample – Metabarcoding based on eDNA anaylsis:

  1. Environmental sample (e.g. water, sediment etc.) is the source of the genetic analysis.
  2. Extraction of total DNA.
  3. A certain genomic region is copied using specially developed molecular probes.
  4. DNA sequences are analysed individually and compared to reference databases for identifying the species composition in your sample.

  4. Identification and analysis of the presence of targeted species in your environmental sample.
