      How can the authenticity of honey be verified?<\/h3><\/div>

      Honey adulteration is a major issue and poses a significant problem for beekeepers, consumers, the agricultural sector and society as a whole.<\/p>

      Without the pollination services provided by bees, our food security can no longer be guaranteed. Our DNA analyses enable genuine honey to be identified and its geographical origin traced. This is achieved by comparing the DNA sequences in the honey with international, publicly accessible sequence databases.<\/p>

      By analysing so-called \u2018key species\u2019 \u2013 which are often less common than forage plants \u2013 conclusions can be drawn about the geographical origin.<\/p>
