DNA-pollen analysis of honey

The DNA traces that bees leave behind when collecting the nectar can be identified in the honey as a genetic fingerprint.

These provide detailed information about the origin and regionality of the product.

Our innovative DNA technology for hobby and professional beekeepers reveals the full diversity of your honey. A significant number of beekeepers have already recognized the benefits of this analysis and are profiting from the results.

Unravel the mystery of DNA and find out which plants your bees have visited.

Use the world’s first DNA analysis for honey to show the regionality of your product and build trust.

Every honey is unique!

We visualize the plant diversity that underlies the unique taste experience of your honey. Metabarcoding is used to identify thousands of the pollen contained, as well as free DNA, and assign them to the plant species from which they originate. This gives each honey an individual DNA profile, a “genetic fingerprint”. This proves the authenticity and regionality of your product because it shows the plants that your bees have visited.

Honey DNA profiling for traders

How can the authenticity of honey be verified?

Honey adulteration is a major issue and poses a significant problem for beekeepers, consumers, the agricultural sector and society as a whole.

Without the pollination services provided by bees, our food security can no longer be guaranteed. Our DNA analyses enable genuine honey to be identified and its geographical origin traced. This is achieved by comparing the DNA sequences in the honey with international, publicly accessible sequence databases.

By analysing so-called ‘key species’ – which are often less common than forage plants – conclusions can be drawn about the geographical origin.

Traces of species that are expected to be present in the honey, or that should not be present, provide evidence of its authenticity.

Organisms leave unmistakable DNA traces in honey. A honey’s DNA profile is as unique as a fingerprint.

We work using state-of-the-art (SOTA) technology.  The Sinsoma DNA profile represents a significant advance in honey quality assurance.

With the Sinsoma honey DNA profile, we can make conclusions about the authenticity and regional origin of honey.
